#16: The Usual Suspects (1995)
Starring: Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollack
Directed by: Bryan Singer
Plot: A boat has been destroyed, criminals are dead, and the key to this mystery lies with the only survivor and his twisted, convoluted story beginning with five career crooks in a seemingly random police lineup.
But is it any good?
To be honest, I could leave this entire movie save the final five minutes. Yes, it has one of the best twists in movie history. Yes, it launched Kevin Spacey as an A-lister which is (mostly) a good thing. But aside from the thrill you get at the end, well, the rest was lost on me from what I recall. I tried to rent it again recently to see if my opinion had changed but they only had it on VHS at the store. Lamers! It’s in the top 20! So I’ll leave as-is but do a retrospective edit if I can get my hands on a copy to watch.
IMDb’s rating: 8.7/10
My rating: we’ll see. I don’t want to leave things this way.
