Review: Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Plot: Chick wants to box. Trainer only trains dudes. Chick persists. Trainer relents.
But is it any good?
Blimey, but this was a depressing film. Actually, I can see it two ways: it has a nice message about the power of friendship and overcoming adversity to achieve your dreams, but really… It’s hard to say anything without giving the end away, but the first half is a wannabe-girl-boxer tale and the other half is a bit different. Morgan Freeman is wheeled out once again for his coveted wise-and-gravelly voice-over.
Yes, Hillary won her Best Actress Oscar but I’m not convinced this was Best Picture-worthy.
